Parrot Cage
The cage you keep your Parrot in is more then just a cage. It is your Parrots home and should be thought of as a home so you can make it as comfortable as possible for your bird. If you keep that in mind when you purchase a cage for your Parrot you can avoid future problems from coming up. You have more then likely paid a lot of money for your Parrot. If cared for properly you now have a companion who will be with you for up to 15 years or longer. When buying the cage or home for your bird do not try to save money by buying a cage that is smaller then what your Parrot needs. Your parrot is going to spend a lot of time in their cage so make it a happy comfortable experience for them.
There are a few things you want to keep in mind when purchasing a cage. The first would be your birds safety. Parrots have been injured and even have died because of being kept in a cage to small or to cluttered with dangerous objects. Your first consideration would be choosing a cage large enough for your Parrot to move around in and be able to stretch their wings. They also should have some room to hop or walk around. The materials the cage is made of can be important also. You want to go with materials that are durable and not prone to rust. If you can afford it a nice stainless steel cage will fill that order. Another consideration is the distance between the bars. You want them close enough together so your parrot can't put their head between them. Also you want the bird to be able to walk on the bottom tray of the cage. This is good for keeping there claws trimmed and won't cause some of the foot problems that could come from the bird walking on cage wire. The tray should be of sturdy stock for another reason also. You need to put a good layer of gritty sand on the bottom for the Parrots comfort and to collect it's waste.
When you start to add cage toys you need to put some thought into that, also. Your Parrot needs a perch to stand on and a swing would be nice, too. But does the perch and swing interfere with each other. Can your Parrot get on the perch without hitting their head on the swing? Can they swing on the swing without hitting the cage walls or the perch? These are just a couple of things you will need to take into consideration.
The most important thing to keep in mind when purchasing a cage for your Parrot is your birds comfort and safety. As long as you keep that foremost in your mind when looking at cages you should walk away with the perfect home for your Parrot friend.
