State Birds

State Birds

Just like every state has a state flower. Every state has a state bird. I like to think what bird a state chooses tells you something about the state.

Some of these birds you may never have heard of unless you live in that state. Alaska has the Willow Ptarmigan,I have never heard of it before.

Some states share a bird with another state. New York and Missouri both have the Bluebird. In fact there are six states that have the Cardinal. There are even a couple of states that have birds that where named after them or a city in that state. Can you guess which state the Rhode Island Red belongs to? How about the Baltimore Oriole?

The birds I like the best are the ones that paint a picture of the state when you here their name. The Cactus Wren of Arizona makes me see a dessert with Sargasso Cactus and mountains on the horizon. Also the Eastern Brown Pelican has me thinking of coastal waters which is a perfect fit for Louisiana. So with that said here is a list of each state and their state bird. Do you think the bird fits the state? What do you imagine when you see the bird's name?
